Health fairs and naloxone training coming to rec centers and bus station

Winston-Salem recreation centers and the downtown bus station will host monthly health resource fairs and naloxone trainings thanks to a collaboration between Forsyth County Health and Human Services (HHS), City of Winston-Salem Recreation and Parks and the Winston-Salem Transit Authority.

These events will take place at a different recreation center facility or the downtown bus station each month. This initiative is part of Forsyth County HHS’s ongoing outreach efforts to connect with residents in the community.

The health resource fairs feature a growing list of community organizations that offer healthcare, counseling and social service resources. The organizations will provide information on services in addition to services such as free blood pressure screenings, various vaccines, Medicaid enrollment and more.

The naloxone trainings will teach participants how to reverse an opioid overdose. Naloxone, also known as Narcan, is a nasal spray that can reverse the effects of an opioid overdose within minutes. It is safe to use and is a critical resource in addressing the overdose epidemic. The training will include how to recognize signs of an overdose and how to administer naloxone as well as harm reduction strategies and support services available for those who are struggling with addiction. Participants will be provided with naloxone at no cost.
